Before calling California home, I have had the opportunity to live in many parts of the country. I grew up in Houston, Texas and completed my undergraduate and medical school training at Northwestern University in Chicago. During my medical school education I was drawn to psychiatry as I felt that it was a specialty that truly helped me know my patients and understand the many factors that affected their lives. I entered a general psychiatry residency at Emory University in Atlanta, and my experiences there led me to pursue a child and adolescent fellowship.
I made a move up to the Pacific Northwest to complete my child and adolescent psychiatry training at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. I had the opportunity to work in various treatment environments, including inpatient, residential and forensic settings, but I was especially drawn to outpatient work as it allowed me to form ongoing therapeutic relationships with kids and their families. I spent the final year of my fellowship as chief resident of the Seattle Children's psychiatry clinic and focused on developing skills in individual therapy, group therapy, parent training and pharmacological management.
Some of my most rewarding work has involved treating under-served minority populations at the Asian Counseling and Referral Service in Seattle, co-leading an outpatient group for children struggling with anxiety and providing psychiatric services for a local community clinic. Recently, I have been dedicating more time to my private practice with the goal of providing more personalized care for my patients and their families.
I enjoy working with kids of all ages, and I am also experienced in treating college-aged individuals and adults. Some of my areas of expertise include Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, OCD and Bipolar. I also work with individuals looking to maximize social, academic and life skills. My treatment methods include both therapy and pharmacological management, and I strive to involve families during the process to optimize results and create collaborative relationships. I am Board Certified in both General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
In my leisure time I enjoy spending time with my wife, 2 sons and 2 dogs. My personal interests include sports, cooking, traveling and the outdoors.
